Golden Syrup Popcorn

Golden Syrup Popcorn

Who doesn’t like a bit of popcorn, especially a large bowl of it to consume during a good film. Well, this is super easy to make, delicious, extremely cost-effective vs what you buy in the bags and the kids love it. It’s winning all round.

This is something I’ve been making for over 20 years. Very buttery and sweet, it really is an awesome treat.

Step 1 - The Corn

  • Get a large saucepan or pot which has a lid, ideally a glass lid and put it on a low to medium heat

  • Add the spoonful of oil and give it a minute to heat up

  • Throw in the popcorn, give it a shake, being careful to hold the lid

  • After a few minutes, the corn should start popping

  • Occasionally, give it a shake until all the popping has stopped

  • Take it off the heat, remove the lid to stop it steaming whilst you get to work on the syrup coating

Step 2 - The coating

  • In another pan, melt the butter and syrup stirring

  • When it’s all melted and starting to froth, remove from the heat and pour over the popcorn

  • Give it a good stir making sure as much is covered as possible

  • Transfer it to some suitable bowls, sit down in front of the telly and get stuck in
