Mother Clucker!

Crispy fried chicken. Is there anything better? Tender and moist chicken, the crunch of the coating, gentle spices, and a side of creamy coleslaw. Mother Clucker deals in such delights, and you can now order this to cook at home. A deep fat fryer really helps, but a deep pan and some oil will work too.

The chicken is tea-brined for you, and the amount of spice mix, flour and buttermilk very generous. Add as much or as little hot sauce as you dare. As with all our reviews, they are not sponsored.

Step 1 - What’s in the box?

  • I went for the D-I-Fry Strip kit for 2 people. Six large chicken tenders, flour mix, lime mayo, hot sauce, buttermilk, cajun spice, coleslaw mix and even parsley for garnish. Other options include halloumi, chicken sandwiches, and chips as a side

  • The whole kit is delivered overnight and arrives chilled and vacuum packed

Step 2 - Frying tonight!

  • Cooking instructions are provided, and it is easy to set up a production line of bowls to get the chicken ready

  • Buttermilk in one dish, flour in another. Dip the chicken according to the instructions and set on a baking sheet whilst your oil heats up
Top tip: I had a lot of buttermilk and flour mix left over, I wish I had some extra chicken thigh fillets to use up the extra!

  • Fry the chicken in batches depending on the size of your fryer

  • Mix the mayo and coleslaw whilst you wait

  • Toss the chicken in the hot sauce, serve with the coleslaw, and a sprinkle of the parsley (if you remember!)

For that truly authentic experience the Mother Clucker’s even provide cardboard take away boxes and paper to line!

Is it worth it? Absolutely! The spice level is great, the crunch on the coating perfect, and the chicken moist due to the brining. You could make this from scratch at home, but there is something great about everything being provided with just enough work to make you feel you’ve earned your dinner!
