Juicy fruit?
Just how do you get the most juice out of a lime? I've heard and read many different methods over the years so have decided to put some to the test!
In this very non-scientific test I juiced 5 similar limes using 5 different methods
- Fridge cold lime - squeezed by hand
- Fridge cole lime - squeezed in a citrus press
- Room temp. lime rolled heavily on a hard surface - squeezed by hand
- Room temp. lime microwaved for 10 seconds - squeezed by hand
- All of the above! Microwave, rolled - squeezed in a press
And here are the results:
- Squeezing a cold lime by hand was hard work and messy, with a lot of pulp left behind
- Popping half a lime in a press and squeezing was easy, minimal mess, and produced a high yield
- Rolling the lime does break down the internal structure, and not being cold boosted the amount of juice
- Microwaving the lime didn't produce more liquid, instead the pulp detached from the fruit and ended up in the glass
- Not worth the effort!
In conclusion I am happy I invested in a hand held citrus press and it didn't matter that I kept my fruit in the fridge.
