Chiptastic

I bought this years ago for £4 when I had to make a lot of chips for an occasion and whilst I am quite happy chopping away, this seemed like a good excuse to buy some kitchen gadgetry, especially for the price.

I also find it a good way to get the kids involved in the kitchen without using sharp knives. They love putting potatoes in to get chips out.

Kitchen Craft Potato Chipper

About

  • It comes with two attachments, one for regular chips (shown above) and one for thinner fries
  • Easy to change, the cutters pop in from the bottom and the matching press clips on easily
  • Simple to clean after use
  • To keep in place whilst chipping, the little handle acts on a suction cup on the bottom which needs a little moisture and a suitable surface

Pros

  • Makes chips and fries
  • Can indulge your OCD with uniformity

Cons

  • Can require a reasonable amount of force on the handle to get a large potato through
  • Doesn't handle the bigger potatoes in a bag. Sometimes the spuds need the ends squaring or the sides trimming
This is a shame as it limits the joy of getting one of those big 'Daddy chips'
  • The price has gone up 4 fold since I bought it

Whilst this occupies kitchen cupboard space to complete a task which I could easily do by hand, it is satisfying to push the spuds through. It comes into its own to give uniformity for the many fries that a large potato provides. This also helps with even cooking.

Has it been a back of the cupboard filler? Definitely not.  Does it make chips? Yes it does!
