Juicy fruit?

Juicy fruit?

Just how do you get the most juice out of a lime? I've heard and read many different methods over the years so have decided to put some to the test!

In this very non-scientific test I juiced 5 similar limes using 5 different methods

  1. Fridge cold lime - squeezed by hand
  2. Fridge cole lime - squeezed in a citrus press
  3. Room temp. lime rolled heavily on a hard surface - squeezed by hand
  4. Room temp. lime microwaved for 10 seconds - squeezed by hand
  5. All of the above!  Microwave, rolled - squeezed in a press

And here are the results:

  1. Squeezing a cold lime by hand was hard work and messy, with a lot of pulp left behind
  2. Popping half a lime in a press and squeezing was easy, minimal mess, and produced a high yield
  3. Rolling the lime does break down the internal structure, and not being cold boosted the amount of juice
  4. Microwaving the lime didn't produce more liquid, instead the pulp detached from the fruit and  ended up in the glass
  5. Not worth the effort!

In conclusion I am happy I invested in a hand held citrus press and it didn't matter that I kept my fruit in the fridge.
